A Board Game Convention In Philadelphia

It’s always been a dream of mine to finally make the 12 hour drive out to Indiana. The oldest board game convention Gen Con, sets up shop there. It’s the big convention most of the tabletop community talks about, but there’s others right there as well, like Origins in Ohio. It’s enough to leave someone in the Northeast feeling a bit separated from all the buzz.

Fortunately, starting last year, the folks at Penny Arcade began a brand new convention. Rather than just adding a new gaming event in another city or country (which would have been awesome too), they started a convention that is dedicated to board games. PAX Unplugged brought a large scale show floor filled with goodies to Philadelphia, giving me a much easier car ride to get a chance to taste that sort of event.

Conventions are great opportunities to play new games or have new experiences - like playing a Mega RPG with 60+ players!

Needless to say, we loved the event. We finished a podcast on it, wrote about it… we actually still have a backlog of board games we are working through that we acquired there!

In the last week, PAX Unplugged tickets went on sale for 2018. Set on November 30th to December 2nd, I am already looking forward to a chance to play in massive RPG events, meet up with friends from across the country, and of course play games that haven’t yet been released. It was a great time last year; enough so that Eric even went so far to say he enjoyed the pace and atmosphere there more than PAX East.

So what are you waiting for? Take a look at the info, and hopefully we will see you on the show floor!
