Does The Future Of Tabletop Exist On The PC?

A revolution in board gaming is coming, and right now Direwolf Digital is leading the charge

The development company is not new to creating digital board games: they have have already released digital versions of Lanterns: The Harvest Festival and Lotus in collaboration with Renegade Game Studios. However, news just broke that there is brand new slew of physical games coming to a computer near you. Details are sparse as this is a brand new announcement, but here’s what we can tell you.

Bigger Board Games Ready For Your Phone

Direwolf is not only bringing Mage Knight, the fan favorite game of deadly conquest to computers, but they’re also entering a digital partnership with the game’s publisher WizKids. While the details of this collaboration are vague, one can only hope it means digital releases from a brand new vast collection.

Also on the list is Root, a game of woodland creatures and warfare. This was one of our favorite games of 2018, and it's amazing to see this one on the list. The board game itself is very complicated because of how every faction has its own rules, so to see this get a digital release will be certainly something.

It remains to be seen if the charming artwork of Root can be translated into a digital space successfully, but we are happy to see them try!

Also on the list are Sagrada, Yellow & Yangtze, Wings of Glory and Raiders of The North Sea. However, only the latter of those games has a release window; Q1 of this year specifically.

Another Sign Of An Expanding Market

This announcement is part of a growing wave in boardgaming to bring more of the physical games that players love to screens. Tabletop Simulator and its massive community of modders have already shown the potential that online boardgames have, and more recently Settlers of Catan VR made waves for being just what die-hard Catan fans wanted. I know for a fact Wyatt and other writers like games like Lords Of Waterdeep online to play with friends across the country, and Dire Wolf Digital making this announcement shows others besides Asmodee Digital are trying to scramble into this new marketplace.

So don’t worry if your favorite game isn’t on this list, because most likely, the question of when it will be brought to your phone or computer isn’t if, it’s when.
