Just recently, we talked about a great new card game, Gruff. It’s fun, bizarre, hilarious, and slightly demented. In terms of a 1v1 card game, it’s a fantastic deal that you shouldn’t try to pass up in terms of gameplay or quality.
Fortunately, there’s a well-timed offer right now: Clash of the Battlegoats is a small standalone expansion that’s currently on Kickstarter right now. It’s a smaller game than the original Gruff, but that’s not always a bad thing, as it’s also more affordable. It lets you just pull everything out of the box and go.
For $20, you get 6 goats. With three goats to a team, it might mean that you feel limited at first. However, you still have 6 shepherds to choose from as your main character, which lets you change your main strategy. When you remember that each goat comes with unique cards to build a deck out of, there’s still plenty of variety to make different goat combinations and particular tricks to win with. If you want to how Clash will play, it's going to be nearly identical to Gruff, and we talked about the rules in detail in our review, if you want to know what to expect.
Where the Clash really shines though is as an expansion to Gruff, because the two are completely compatible. There haven’t been any new factions of goats added, just more of your favorite Funkfiends, Deepthings, and Contraptions to add to the ones in the base game. It adds more variety to a game that already has hundreds of different combos to be put together.
New goats means new bizarre combinations.
In terms of quality, based on Gruff, this is a great deal. If you don’t have Gruff already, check out the Kickstarter because you can purchase Gruff through it as well, with no shipping added. One new thing that are being included into the kickstarter are ‘legendary’ goats, which are alternate rule versions of goats from the original game. You will get access to these through the Kickstarter, adding even more variety to what is already there.
Every time I’ve played Gruff with a friend, they’ve looked for a way to buy it for themselves. If you want a good card game that doesn’t take up a lot of space or money, this is it. The Kickstarter ends by 5/10/2016 though, so if you want this deal, jump on it while you still can! Trust me, you won’t regret having an army of goats to call your own.
